Waffle Recipe
Equipment
- Waffle Maker
Ingredients
- 2 Cups organic all-purpose flour spoon & leveled
- 2 teaspoon Aluminum-Free baking powder I use Rumford baking powder
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- 2 large pasture raised eggs
- 1¼ cups milk room temperature
- ½ cup grass-fed butter melted (1stick)
- 2 Tablespoon organic cane sugar or honey
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat waffle iron. Lightly grease it with melted butter.
- In large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 2tsp baking powder, ½ tsp sea salt.
- In medium bowl, beat 2 eggs, then add 1¼ cup milk, ½ cup melted butter, 2 TBS cane sugar (or honey), and 1 tsp pure vanilla and whisk until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. A few lumps are ok.
- Scoop ½ cup of batter for each waffle into waffle maker, or scoop an appropriate amount for your waffle maker. Cook for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown and lightly crisp. The timing will depend on your waffle iron.
- Serve with more butter & maple syrup.
Notes
- Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking to allow the baking powder to activate.
- For extra crispness, place cooked waffles on a wire rack instead of stacking them.
- Leftovers? Freeze the waffles in an airtight container and reheat in a toaster for a quick treat.
A Family Favorite: Making Waffle Memories
There’s something magical about the smell of waffles cooking on a cozy weekend morning. In our home, these waffles aren’t just a meal—they’re an experience. My kids request these all the time, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to make together.
We start by gathering the ingredients, talking about why we choose the ones we do. It’s a little lesson in nourishment—organic flour for its purity, pasture-raised eggs for their richness, and aluminum-free baking powder for clean, natural flavor. Even my littlest ones love to whisk the batter, learning the basics of cooking and the joy of creating something from scratch.
Once the waffles are ready, the real fun begins—topping them! Maple syrup and date syrup are always a hit, but fresh strawberries and blueberries often make an appearance too. For a little indulgence, we’ll sprinkle in HU brand chocolate chips or whip up some homemade whipped cream to dollop on top. The kids love getting creative, and I love seeing their excitement as they make their plates uniquely theirs.
These moments are about more than just waffles—they’re about connection. The giggles as batter spills, the pride on their faces when the waffles turn out golden, and the shared joy of sitting down to enjoy something we made together. They’re memories my kids will carry with them, along with the life skills they’re learning in the kitchen.
The possibilities with these waffles are endless, but the best part is the time we spend together. Whether it’s a cozy weekend or a special occasion, these waffles are more than a recipe—they’re the heart of family traditions we’ll cherish forever.
Recipe Notes:
Why organic flour?
Organic flour is free from added chemicals and synthetic pesticides, offering a cleaner, healthier choice for your family.
Pasture-raised eggs:
These eggs come from hens raised in natural environments, producing richer, more nutrient-dense yolks compared to conventionally raised eggs.
Aluminum-free baking powder:
Baking powders that contain aluminum can sometimes leave a metallic aftertaste. Choosing aluminum-free ensures a cleaner flavor.
Sea salt for minerals:
High-quality sea salt provides essential minerals like magnesium and potassium, which support hydration and overall health.
Sugar alternatives:
If you prefer alternatives to organic cane sugar, try these options:
–Stevia or monk fruit sweetener: For a low-carb option, use a small amount, as they are much sweeter than sugar.
–Maple sugar or coconut sugar: Add a subtle caramel flavor.
–Raw honey: A natural sweetener with added health benefits (reduce liquid in the recipe slightly if using).
Why We Choose Organic Flour
In our home, we prioritize using organic flour in all our baking, and here’s why. Non-organic flour is often treated with synthetic pesticides and chemicals during cultivation and processing, which can leave behind residues that we prefer to avoid. Additionally, some non-organic flours are enriched with synthetic vitamins that may not be ideal for everyone, especially those with the MTHFR gene mutation.
The MTHFR gene mutation can affect how the body processes certain synthetic forms of folic acid, a common additive in non-organic and enriched flours. By using organic flour, which is free from these synthetic additives, we can create wholesome recipes that support overall health and well-being.
Organic flour also has a richer, more natural flavor, making it the perfect foundation for waffles that not only taste amazing but feel good to eat. Paired with other thoughtful ingredients like pasture-raised eggs and aluminum-free baking powder, these waffles are crafted with both health and flavor in mind.
If you’re looking for a waffle recipe that nourishes your body and avoids unnecessary additives, these are a must-try!
Topping Ideas to Elevate Your Waffles
